We publish poetry, fiction, nonfiction, biography, autobiography, literary nonfiction by and/or about people of color, women, gay/lesbian issues, health and mental health topics in children's literature.

We read unsolicited mss. of fiction and nonfiction September 1st to December 1st yearly and children's lit and poetry from February 1st to June 1st.

Our next poetry contest - for a full-length collection by an emerging author - will take entries in the fall, with a submission deadline of 12/1/08 and fee of $20. This contest is for writers who haven't had more than one full-length book published. Final Judge tba. Full guidelines available here.

We accept queries by email (letter and description of work only, do not send large files via email) or U.S. Mail (send a 10-pp. sample with letter and include brief bio and SASE for reply only).

Artists wishing to be considered as illustrators should send hardcopies of artwork by U.S. Mail or send web-links. Do not send pdfs or other large files by email.

We respond in three months to queries; six months to mss. Terms: Publishes ms. one to two years after acceptance.

Advice: Please read our mission statement online before submitting. Do not send religious/inspirational works or stories about cute cartoonish animals. §
